TURBO KICK is coming to Team85 Fitness & Wellness!

Class will start this FRIDAY, May 20th at 9:30am in Studio 3.  We will be starting off with the new “Signature Round”.  This round was specially designed to introduce the new changes to Turbo— and those changes are awesome!

The new format is easier to follow and includes HIIT sections so you are getting an awesome interval workout.  Never fear, though, we still do the classic TURBO section— TWICE!  What to the what???  Strength and Core sections are now included at the end of the workout (instead of being an optional add on) balancing out the class.

What IS Cize Live, anyway?

Me:  Hey!  Are you coming out to my Cize LIVE class tomorrow at 10:00am? Dance fitness?  It’s fun!

You:  Ooooooh, no.  I can’t dance.  Sorry.

WHAT?  As Shaun T says, if you can walk, you can dance!  But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me answer the same questions I answered for PiYo:

What IS Cize Live?   You know Shaun T from Insanity, but did you know he was a dancer first?  This is his new dance fitness workout! Dance is a super fun way to get in incredible shape— have you seen what happens to the people that do Dancing With the Stars?  Dance is a fantastic workout!  The cool thing is, Cize Live is professional dance for everyday people!  You will learn a professionally choreographed dance.  The goal is to “Cize It Up” at the end of class and do that routine to one special song!

Is it for beginners?  YES!  Cize LIVE is for EVERYONE– beginning dancers, returning dancers, experienced dancers, the I Never Danced dancers! I will break down professionally choreographed routines for you, step-by-step.  By the end of the hour you will be busting out a dance routine and totally forget you are working out!  The cool thing is, we will repeat the same routine for about a month. Each week you come you get better and better– which only means you can crank up the volume on your calorie burn!  You can come to class at anytime during those weeks– no need to start at the beginning as I will break down the dance for you in each class.  Hey, do you think they learn those dances on Broadway in a day??  The more you come, the better you get!

But I REALLY can’t dance.  Will it be too hard for me?  Again, let me say EVERYONE can dance!  *I* am not a professional dancer!  I’m not asking you to come out and be Beyonce.  (Although I do like to tell my classes it’s like I’m Britney Spears and they are my back up dancers– I can dream, right?)  Think about the first time you did anything– the first time skiing, or roller blading, or even riding a bike.  It was hard, right?  But the more you did it, the better you became.  Will you feel confused in your first class?  Probably.  But that’s NORMAL.  If you come out with the mind set I’m going to have fun and get a great workout and not take it too seriously, you will be GREAT!

PiYo Live– Will I Be Able to Do It?

I just started working at an AWESOME new gym in my area–Team85 Fitness & Wellness. I am super excited that they choose me to introduce PiYo Live to their clients!  Even though PiYo has been around since the late 1990’s, it seems many people at this location have never heard of it and aren’t sure what it is.  After I explain it to them, their next question is usually, “I haven’t worked out in awhile.  Will it be too hard for me?”  Since I hear these two things so often, I thought I would cover them here!

What is PiYo?  PiYo is basically a low impact class that will help you tone and stretch your muscles, improve your balance and core strength– all with a cardio kick.  It’s for people that want the benefits of yoga and pilates, but have a hard time sitting still!  It is taught in lessons that can last anywhere from 4-6 weeks and is set to fun, upbeat music (there’s a whole lesson of all 80s music!) that will keep you motivated and moving!  There is never a dull moment in a PiYo Live class!

Is it for beginners?  PiYo is for EVERYONE.  The beauty of PiYo is that ANYONE can do it! Since we will repeat a lesson many times and the basic moves appear in each lesson there is so much room for success!  My main piece of advice is to make it YOUR workout.  Don’t worry about what your neighbor is doing next to you.  We are all different levels of fitness and PiYo can be adjusted to match everyone’s personal level.

I tell all my new members that it takes at least 3 classes to become comfortable in any format.  The first class you will feel lost and maybe confused.  You will be craning your neck to see what is going on, you will be hearing terms that may be new to you, you may even feel frustration and that’s normal— it’s a learning day!  Your second class you will remember some of moves and terms from the first class and you might even think, yes!  I remember this!  It will be a little easier to execute.  By the third class your muscle memory will kick in and start automatically following what your brain is telling it to do.  Eventually, you will even want to break out into PiYo moves when you hear a song from class on the radio in your car!  (True story– it happens!)

Will it be too hard for you?  Let’s face it— most people don’t like to do things that are hard for them.  We like to be successful!  Will your first class be hard?  I’m not going to lie, it probably will be hard.  Anything is hard the first time you try it— think about the first time you went skiing or learned to ride a bike.   If you don’t do push ups, yes, a push up will be hard! This is especially true if you aren’t doing any strength building or flexibility at the moment. Heck, the first FEW classes might be hard for you.  HOWEVER, I guarantee if you keep coming back you will become stronger, more flexibile, and leaner than you’ve even been!  You will be amazed at what you gain in these areas.  If you want to change your body, sometimes cardio isn’t enough— you *need* at add strength and flexibility to your workout routine.  Don’t get me wrong, you will burn a ton of calories with PiYo!  It’s the best of both worlds!

Beachbody 3 Day Refresh: The Results!

Well, I did it!  I stuck to the program and followed it as closely as I possibly could!  Now, I didn’t do this for the weight loss, (well, maybe a little) I did it because I was so far off track after 2 weeks of traveling and parties, etc etc etc.  I was just feeling like I was out of control and needed a SMACK in the right direction.  This was it!  I’m so glad I did it— I ended up losing 6 pounds! That’s all 5 I gained plus a bonus pound!  All for 3 days effort! I’ll take that!  I felt less bloated and really better just in general.  I had INCREDIBLE energy– especially on the final day, which really surprised me.  Here’s me the day after I was finished on the beach doing a little PiYo:

feed Go me! I promised to answer some of the questions I received while I was doing the program, so here we go:

1.  I don’t know. I don’t think I can just drink protein shakes and not be starving. I like to eat. Weren’t you starving the whole time?

No! I wasn’t starving AT ALL. Ever! I was actually sort of surprised by that myself. The Vanilla Fresh protein drink was VERY filling and did its job. In addition, this is NOT a two shakes an day and a healthy dinner type program– the Vanilla Fresh and Shakeology are IN ADDITION to eating fruit, vegetables, and healthy fats. I promise you will not be starving!

2.  Sooooo…. this Fiber Sweep you need to drink. Is that going to make me be in the bathroom all day?

Nope! It’s not like that. It’s made to gently sweep out your system. As a matter of fact, I didn’t really see much of an effect until after I was done with the 3 days. I will say if you aren’t used to so much fiber (the program is packed with it) you may feel a little bloating and have some gas, but that’s normal. It’s also a sign you need more fiber in your life, anyway! Your body will adjust.

3.  I can’t live without my coffee.  Can I have coffee?

Sure! You can have coffee on the Refresh. You just can’t use milk or creamer, but you can sweeten it with stevia. I decided not to have it at all. Instead I opted for the 2 cups a day of herbal tea. It’s entirely up to you. Can’t live without the milk in your coffee? Then just do it! The Beachbody police aren’t going to get you– just know that your results may be slightly different than they could have been.  That’s all.  (PS  I had coffee immediately the day after I was done and was promptly a big, jittery mess!)

4.  You probably worked out the whole time you were doing it. I know you did. Do I have to workout like a nut to get results?

Nooooo. As a matter of fact, Beachbody suggests only mild to moderate exercise while doing the Refresh so your body can focus on the cleansing. You can leave the nutty working out to me for 3 days.  <wink>

5.  Am I going to just gain all the weight back that I lost?  It’s probably not permanent.

Well, that’s up to you! Sure, if the whole week after you cleanse you binge on McDonald’s and ice cream I’m pretty sure you’ll gain something back.  However, if you use this as a jump start to clean eating and staying on track, I know you’ll have a good shot at keeping it off!

6.  Okay!  I’m interested!  It’s probably a ton of money, right?

Wrong! The Refresh is $69.95 with Shakeology. If you already drink Shakeology you can buy a kit without it for $59.95. HOWEVER— the BEST deal is to get a Challenge Pack where you can get a WHOLE BAG of Shakeology (your flavor choice!) AND a 3 Day Refresh kit for $140.00. YEAH. That’s a BARGAIN. That’s like buying a bag of Shakeology and getting the Refresh for 10 bucks. I know you are going to love Shakeology and kick yourself for not getting more, so this is a GREAT option. Final Day of the Beachbody 3 Day Refresh!

Day 3 is DONE!  Whoot whoot!

I’ve got to say, Day 3 was the hardest for me.  Now, I don’t know if it’s because I did it during a holiday weekend, or because I just don’t like to be restricted and follow a schedule of any kind, or because I was PMS-ing the whole time (Which I didn’t realize until I was finished, and it explains the headache I had on Day 2–sorry boys– TMI, I know.) but it was ROUGH towards the end of the day.  Around dinner time I kept thinking, “What’s the big deal?  I’ll just have this piece of dark chocolate.  I’m practically done, anyway.”  BUT, I DID NOT!  I stuck it out and I finished strong and I can’t WAIT to share my results with you…. but that will be tomorrow’s episode!  For now, here’s how Day 3 went….

So, I won’t bore you with the photos, but I followed the same plan as Day 1 and 2– Shakeology and fruit for breakfast, the Flush mid morning, then vegetables with a healthy fat for lunch along with more fruit and the Vanilla Refresh.  Afternoon included a vegetable/healthy fat snack, and finally dinner.  I have to say, I really like the dinner recipes. Here’s an example of one:

refreshbStir Fry Vegetables!  Dinner is the only meal you need to actually prepare and cook during the Refresh. There are recipes in the book for very simple and quick to make vegetable meals.  Most of them are cooked with a healthy fat like EVOO, or my personal favorite, organic coconut oil.  (LOVE that stuff!)  Along with your dinner selection, you also have yet another Vanilla Refresh. (Again, this along with Shakeology is the source of your protein for 3 days.)  You also have the option of having a cup or organic vegetable broth.  I decided to have this on Days 2 and 3.  I just heated it up in a big mug and drank it like tea after dinner, which, by the way, my 12 year old son thought was the weirdest thing EVER.  He was like, “What are you DOING?  You are just going to drink that like COFFEE from a MUG?”  Yes.  Yes, I am.  I really liked it.  I think I will actually continue to have some like that on occasion.  (And he asked for his own mug o’broth on Day 3, so I guess he got over the weirdness!)

And speaking of my son, here is a little side bonus from doing the Refresh— he is totally digging the stir fried vegetables.  He asked to try mine the first night and liked them so much I had to make extra so he could have them as well on Days 2 and 3!  (Yes, I loved them so much I just made them all 3 nights!)  On the last day he even said he was sad the Refresh was over because he would miss the stir fried vegetables! I told him I would for sure still make them for us.  Kids eating vegetables without a problem?  Thanks, Beachbody!

DONE!  Tomorrow I will reveal my results and answers some questions some of you have been asking me, so stayed tuned for that!  I can tell you I am feeling leaner and less bloated already.  Can’t wait to share the results with you!

Day TWO of the Beachbody 3 Day Refresh!

Yes, I am posting this late….. it’s the 4th of July weekend and there is lots of stuff going on!

Side note:  Can you believe I’m doing this during a holiday weekend?  I am HARD CORE, I tell ya.  No, seriously, that shows you how really doable this program is.  If I can do it during a holiday weekend, I’m sure YOU can do it ANYTIME.   Think about it.

Okay— Day 2 went really well.  I started the morning off again with Shakeology and a bowl of fruit.  Mid morning I drank more of the Flush (I’ve had some questions about the Flush and how um, flushing it really is….. more on that in a bit)  Then I had an awesome lunch:

Pretty yummy lunch.  I’m really digging the Vanilla Fresh— today I put some cinnamon in it just for fun and crushed it up with a million ice cubes and poured it in a fancy glass.   Really, really good.  (This is where you are getting the majority of your protein– the rest is in your morning Shakeology.)  I then had some carrots and a “legal” fat– in this case hummus to dip them in— and finally some watermelon.  (Like my bowl?  Those lines are serving sizes!)  In the afternoon I got to have snack of more vegetables and a “legal” fat.  I’ll tell you about dinners tomorrow– so be sure to check my blog then!

A note about the Flush:  I’ve already had some people ask me if they will be in the bathroom all day using this.  I can only answer from my experience, but my answer is no. It’s a super gentle fiber cleanse.  I’m actually feeling a tad bloated and I kind of WISH it would start flushing, if you know what I mean!    I think part of the problem is I’m not drinking enough of this:

Yep. Water.  You are supposed to be drinking half of your body weight in ounces during the Refresh.  I’ve been doing that, but it doesn’t seem to be enough.  I’m going to make sure I up it tomorrow and hopefully things will get moving!

Day 1 of the Beachbody 3 Day Refresh!

In case you missed it,  since I’m a coach and I like to try all things Beachbody so I can help people from experience, I am doing their newest program called the 3 Day Refresh.  I told everyone I would blog about it and tell you what I think.

If you haven’t heard about it, it’s a 3 day program designed to give you a nice, fast break (or kick in the pants) from bad eating habits, or to help you drop a few pounds quickly– but SAFELY.  Or maybe you went to Atlantic City for a few days and you ate all kinds of crab fries and had margaritas and you need to get back on track.  (Maybe that’s just me.) You can do it once a month, seasonally, anytime you need a little kick start.  And hey ho– it’s got a money back guarantee. So why wouldn’t someone want to try it? Here it is in all it’s glory:

I gotta say, I’m a sucker for packaging, and this is the CUTEST. A little flip top box with each of the three days in its own compartment. SO cute. Anyway, it’s really simple. Shakeology, (which you can buy with the program or without– more on that later–I already have about 5 bags in my pantry, so I got the without version) fruits and vegetables, Fiber Sweep, green tea, and Vanilla Fresh protein drink.  I’ve got this. I can do that for 3 days. The only thing that pains me is I won’t be having coffee for those 3 days. You CAN have coffee, but I like mine with milk and sugar and that’s not allowed, so I’m going all hard core and just skipping it.

Day one breakfast looked like this.  This is pretty much my standard breakfast on a regular day– strawberry Shakeology and fruit– in this case cherries.  Nothing new to see here. The only difference is I couldn’t have my coffee, BUT I could wait an hour and have some green tea sweetened with stevia.  I actually got busy and I skipped the tea– it is optional– and it wasn’t really a big deal.  However, the next mid morning step in the program is NOT optional, and after doing the Ultimate Reset (search the blog for that) I was a little worried about the morning ritual of drinking the Fiber Sweep…….

 

refresh3Yeeaaaah.  That’s the color it is.  When you put it in the glass it kind of looks like dirt.  EXACTLY what the Detox drink looked like on the Ultimate Reset.  I wasn’t too thrilled to have to drink this stuff because the Detox was NASTY.

I am happy to report this really tastes like nothing!  It IS very thick and the packaging has all kinds of warnings about how you need to use at least a cup of water to mix it in— I suggest more.  I started out with the cup but as I drank it, it became thicker and I added more water until it was gone.  Not bad.  Not bad at all.

 

Next up was lunch— but I will save that for tomorrow!  I gotta say, so far, so good!  I’m not hungry, I’m not feeling like I want to eat stuff. (junk)  I figure it’s only 3 days, I can do this!  Check back in tomorrow for the rest of the day!

My Inner Fat Kid is on the Loose!

Do you know Jenna Marbles?  She’s a blogger and youtube video-maker person.  (For lack of something better to call her!)  I’ve lost entire afternoons watching some of her videos.  She is HYS-TER-ICAL.  Anyway, I was scrolling through her videos the other day and I came across one called “Junk Food Confessions”.   Ohmygosh, it’s completely hysterical.  It’s all about how she’s fallen off her “diet train” as her Inner Fat Kid has taken over her life and is forcing her to eat terrible things.  In order to get herself back on track, she’s confessing all the terrible eating she’s done over the past few months so she can own it and move on.

That’s what I need!

Ugh.  The past 8 weeks have been terrible health-wise for me.  First I had a muscle injury that put me on the sidelines for a few weeks, followed up by a possible cardiac condition that stuck me in the hospital and side lined me AGAIN until I got some clearance on that.  (I’m good– thanks for asking!)  Anywho, the not exercising and sitting around on a heating pad thing can sorta kinda lead you into some bad habits of eating crap you wouldn’t NORMALLY eat— you know, because you’re feeling all bad and out of sorts, and maybe sorry for yourself a little bit, and guilty because you’re letting down all your clients that come to your classes…..and then it’s your son’s birthday and your mom makes this awesome chocolate cake and it’s just sitting there at 10:00pm staring at you so you have some….. okay, maybe that’s just me.  But still, I’m sure something like this has happened to you, so you get what I’m talking about.  Can you relate?  Good!  Then let’s fix it together!  Are you with me?  Let’s say the pledge:

I, (Insert Your Name Here), am jumping back on the Fitness Train, TODAY.  I will start (Insert Your Exercise Program Here — mine will be Focus T25 TODAY– Day One Alpha Cardio).  I will reign in my Inner Fat Kid and not let him/her control my life, because let’s face it, this is the WORST time of year for that kinda thing.  I will make better food choices on a regular basis.  However, if my Inner Fat Kid gets out, I will not beat myself up about it.  I will him/her back in control, and move on.  To this I solemnly swear!

Okay, now cut and paste that and post it on your Facebook wall!  Then everyday post what exercise you are doing, to keep you accountable!  Let’s do this right through December!  Ready?  Set?  GO!
